Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born July 8, 1989 in Paris. When she was a kid, she went to the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma's dream was to become an actor. As a young girl of six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons in acting, singing and dancing. When she was ten, she was performing and taking as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been selected for the characters. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's screen debut came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in 2001. The film broke records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales as well as being the most-grossing feature in 2001. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance.
